Candidate forum is March 12

Marion County Clerk and Election Officer Carol Maggard has announced there will be a primary election for Marion City Council positions.

Thirteen candidates filed for four positions and the field needs to be narrowed before the general election in April.

A primary election will be held Feb. 28. Marion city voters will vote for four candidates. From that election, the top eight vote-getters will move on to the April 4 general election.

The City of Marion will pay for the primary election, said Maggard.

Voters who have changed their addresses or names and those who have never voted before need to register before Feb. 13 to vote in the primary election, and before March 20 to vote in the general.

Candidates are Erik Billings, Stacey Collett, incumbent Jim Crofoot, Jim Davis, Roger Hannaford III, Max Hayen, Bill Holdeman, Melvin Honeyfield, Gerald Kline, Darvin Markley, Earl Mueller, Roger Schwab, and Gene Winkler.

A candidate forum, sponsored by the Marion County Record will be held at 2 p.m. March 12 at Marion Senior Center, 309 S. Third Street, Marion.

The public is invited to attend and learn more about the final eight candidates.
