Progress continues for county developer job

Marion County Commission will ask some former task force members to meet and prepare for a county economic development facilitator position.

At Monday's commission meeting, City of Hillsboro administrator Steve Garrett asked questions and made suggestions.

It was determined the commission wanted the facilitator to work with an advisory board and the commission.

Commissioner Randy Dallke said he knows of other places where the individual answered to the governing body and it didn't work.

It was determined the advisory board would assist the facilitator and the commission with economic development efforts.

Commission vice chairman Dan Holub presided over the meeting in the absence of chairman Bob Hein. Both Holub and Dallke assured Garrett the Marion County Economic Development Council will continue to be supported and would work with the facilitator in development efforts.

The commission and Garrett discussed who should serve on the advisory board.

It was determined Garrett and City of Marion administrator David Mayfield should be replaced on the task force with elected officials.

Each commissioner will select two individuals from their district who may have served on the previous task force but also will include elected officials.

The commission also wanted representation from the business and agriculture communities.

The task force would assist with "tweeking" the job description and conduct job interviews. It was determined there would be two interviews for qualified applicants.

Hein will be contacted and asked to select representatives from his district.

A meeting soon will be held with the commission also in attendance.
