Property owner asked to attend meeting

Due to worsening weather conditions and eventual loss of electricity, Tuesday's Marion City Commission meeting was brief.

The owner of dilapidated property at Denver and Freeborn streets was required to make specific improvements to the property by Jan. 1.

City administrator David Mayfield said the electrical service line was hooked up to the house, electrical box was installed, furnace set but flue was not hooked up, and he didn't know the status with the natural gas.

Mayfield said the house's plumbing has not been repaired, and there was a hole in the carport roof that needed to be addressed. The owner told Mayfield contractors had been hired but had not completed the work.

Mayor Martin Tice said he would like the owner to attend a commission meeting in person to address his progress and plans.

In other business, warrants were approved for $28,174.

The next commission meeting will be 4 p.m. Monday in the city building.
