Public invited to comment on county's future

Meetings to discuss the future of Marion County will be held next month.

Marion County Commission decided Monday to host at least five meetings around the county to gather input for the county's strategic plan. As part of the plan, residents will be asked to complete surveys.

In other business:

— County clerk Carol Maggard verified that there will be one question on the November ballot regarding the approval of bond funds for a new jail.

— WRAPS coordinator Peggy Blackman distributed information regarding past programs and a request of $50,000 in 2008.

— Maggard announced that Mike Hammond had been hired as a temporary custodian at the courthouse. His pay is $9 per hour.

— Commissioner Dan Holub requested and received a five-minute executive session to discuss personnel. The meeting reconvened with no decisions.

— The commission held a work session Thursday to hear budget proposals for 2009 from department heads.

The first draft with corresponding mill levy information will be reviewed at the July 31 commission meeting.

The next commission meeting is at 8 a.m. Monday in the courthouse.
