With the theme, "The Great Pumpkin Patch," it's only natural that Lincolnville's 21st annual Octoberfest celebration will feature a pumpkin contest.

To be held Saturday at the community center, the contest is open to people of all ages and includes the following classes: smallest pumpkin, largest pumpkin, best painted pumpkin, best carved design, and funniest shape.

Judging will take place at 3 p.m.

Festivities will begin at 7 a.m. with a fun run. Registration is at the fire station.

Pilsen State Bank will sponsor a breakfast feed and coffee bar at the community center from 8 to 10 a.m. Proceeds will go to the Lincolnville (District #5) Fire Department.

From 9:30 to 10 a.m., the Alex Stuchlik Polka Band will entertain in the park.

The parade down Main Street will begin at 11 a.m. and a noon meal will be served at the United Methodist church.

A children's carnival and train ride will be available from noon until 4 p.m.

The McPherson Youth Pipe & Drum Band will perform from 12:30 to 1 p.m.

Bingo will be played from 2 to 4 p.m. at the community center, and a pool tournament will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. at Bailey's Tavern.

Maurice Pritz and Friends will perform from 2:30 to 4 p.m., followed by Kenneth Nienstedt with stories in rhyme until 5 p.m.

A Mexican meal will be served at the community center beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The 8 to 12 p.m. street dance in front of Bailey's Tavern will feature The Wanted Band. A $5 cover charge is required. In case of rain, the dance will be held inside and no youth will be allowed.

Door prizes will be awarded throughout the day, and an arts and crafts fair also will be available.

"Come join us for a day in the pumpkin patch!" said event chairman Sylvia Bailey.
