Race is on for county commission seat

Daniel Holub, Max Hayen candidates for commission

The filing deadline was noon Wednesday with two candidates vying for Marion County Commission district two.

Daniel Holub of rural Marion filed this past week and Max Hayen of Marion had filed in May for the open position. Howard Collett announced in May he was not seeking re-election.

Randy Dalke of Peabody is the only candidate who has filed for commission district three. Leroy Wetta recently announced he was not seeking re-election.

Other candidates seeking re-election for county positions are: Susan Robson, attorney; Carol Maggard, clerk; Jeannine Bateman, treasurer; Lee Becker, sheriff; and Faye Makovec, register of deeds.

Townships and improvement districts without candidates will have to rely on write-in votes from residents.

Township candidates

Voters will have the opportunity to cast their votes for township candidates in both the primary and general elections.

Candidates who have filed for township positions are: Centre trustee Jon Thole, treasurer Raymond Kraus; Clark treasurer Edward P. Vinduska; Durham Park trustee Gordon Christiansen; treasurer Glennon Crowther; Fairplay trustee Charles DeForest, treasurer Clifford J. Hett; Gale trustee Gary Vogel, treasurer Marvin E. Meisinger; Grant trustee James A. Herzet, treasurer Lori Herzet.

Logan trustee Ronald Unruh, treasurer Lane K. Dyck; Lost Springs treasurer Robert L. Novak; Menno treasurer Duane L. Duerksen; Risley trustee Loren Ensz, treasurer Paul D. Penner; Summit trustee Douglas M. Brewer; and West Branch trustee Vernie L. Voth, treasurer Dwight R. Schmidt.

Townships without candidates are Blaine, Catlin, Clear Creek, Doyle, East Branch, Lehigh, Liberty, Milton, Moore, Peabody, and Wilson.

Precinct candidates

Some precincts have numerous candidates from both Republican and Democratic parties. One man and one woman will be elected for each precinct in the primary election.

Townships with no candidates for precinct committee members are Blaine, East Branch, and Milton.

Improvement districts

Three officers will be chosen from each improvement district in the general election.

Following are candidates for county improvement districts: Eastshore Improvement District #1 James Lee Christensen, Donald Rock, and Mary Susan Cameron; Marion County Lake Improvement District #2 Dan Crumrine, Don M. Jolley, and Joseph J. Skelnar. No candidates filed for offices from Marion County Pilsen Improvement District.
