Rain, rain, and more rain swamps county roads, fields

More than 11 inches of rain fell Friday in the northern part of Marion County.

Some areas by Lincolnville and Ramona reported four to five inches of rain fell in 45 minutes Friday morning.

Numerous county roads were closed due to high water caused by the torrential rainfall.

However, the flooding was not as significant as the flood that occurred in July 2004.

In two separate incidents, people were rescued from vehicles that were swept from roadways.

According to Jim Herzet, acting county road and bridge superintendent, county workers spent portions of the weekend setting out barricades and cleaning debris from roadways.

"There were workers out until 1:30 a.m. Saturday," Herzet said.

Rain water flooded ditches, fields, and creeks — causing water to cover roadways and bridges.

Fortunately, no major road or bridge damage was reported. Mainly rock was washed from county roadways and minor damage was noted on Remington Road.

Marion Reservoir reported 2.96 inches of rainfall while Peabody received a little more than two inches.

By Monday morning, it was business as usual with all county roads reopened. County crews continue to clean up debris left from the rain storm.
