Rain storm causes power problems for city customers

A tree was blamed for sporadic and then no electricity in Marion Monday morning.

Harvey Sanders, public utilities director, said Monday during a Marion City Commission meeting a tree had fallen on electrical lines by the former alfalfa mill, north of town on Walnut Street, causing the power outages.

"The branches caused the flickering," Sanders said, "and the tree caused major outages."

When the problem was identified, crews quickly made the necessary repairs and power was back on for customers.
