Random Thoughts

I have just finished the strangest book I have ever read — "The Assassination of Lincoln," by Lloyd Lewis. It was first published in 1929, then renewed several times.

It tells of Lincoln attending a show in Ford Theater, Washington, D.C. I was there once and gazed upon the flag- decorated balcony where Lincoln was shot. Then it talked about his funeral and the long train ride delivering his body to Springfield, Ill. How the people gathered along the track to honor their dead president who had almost become a national idol. Then his burial was delayed and his body moved seven times.

The story of Booth, trying to hide out and the people involved in the crime. There was secrecy and hangings involved. You just have to read it. You will learn some surprising happenings during that dramatic event.

Now I'm not only getting marketing telephone calls, I'm getting campaign calls for the people running for president in the upcoming election.

It is going to be a long time before November. I believe we should shorten the time and limit the money spent. I guess Congress would never pass laws like that. It is all very interesting and people seem more excited than usual.
