Random Thoughts

What can I write? I just finished reading a book by a writer who never missed a word, so educated, so articulate, and so expressive. I feel very amateurish. It was a wonderful story, "Everyday Matters," by Nardia Reeder Campion. It could be the story (true story) of everyone, no matter the financial or social standing. It is so matter-of-fact, so humorous, and so sad, I had to shed a few tears.

I read in the paper where some man is interested in buying the old mill in Lindsborg. It is on the National Register. He wants to open it to the public as a "Little Bit of Sweden." I was there when a prince came from Sweden to help them celebrate their centennial. There is a one-room schoolhouse on the grounds where the mill is. My son-in-law's mother taught in it.

I remember a story told by someone, that when some Swedish people landed in New York they said, "Is this Lindsborg?" The people in Lindsborg do try to keep some traditions going. Kansas should help to promote it for tourist attractions.

Marion has lost an icon — Fern Palmer Frans. I think everyone knew and liked Fern — such a friendly, happy woman. Margaret Wolf and I used to go to her hamburger café for our afternoon snacks. She always gave us a hearty welcome. She used to take walks every day and often passed my house on Elm Street. She will be missed.
