Random Thoughts

What is your favorite snack? I read in the paper that snacks are good for older people. In retirement homes they usually serve something mid-morning and mid-afternoon to the patients. Fruit and cookies are favorites. I like cheese, the creamy kind you can spread on crackers or toast. I was once eating in a restaurant with some people and a young man in the group ordered tidbits and a drink. That was his dinner! There I was paying $10-$12 for my dinner and he was paying less than half for his. Oh well.

I see where those beautiful tropical birds were found and returned to the Sedgwick County Zoo. Evidently they were stolen for their monetary value. How could any half-intelligent person think he could get away with selling them?

I have just read a book by Bill Bryson called "A Walk in The Woods." It is the story of his walk on the Appalachian Trail.

He tells every detail, sometimes scary and sometimes humorous. The trail is more than 2,000 miles long, from Maine to Georgia. It is rough, mountainous, rocky, thick woods, rain, snow, and hot to contend. Besides, it takes six months or more to do the whole trail. I have heard that a blind man did it.

A few years ago, my daughter Wanda and I drove to that part of the country and crossed the trail. It is such beautiful country. It does look blue over those mountains. I wouldn't mind doing that again.
