Don't you wish we could go back to the time when Baghdad was an ancient, mysterious city where a prince or princess could fly over the city sitting on a beautiful Persian rug?

The visit of the military riding on the big, beautiful steam train was a huge success. It was a real thrill for everyone. The Union Pacific was very important a few years ago. I remember riding on the Portland Rose several times, going to Oregon to visit relatives. It was a luxury trip. Eating in the dining car always was a pleasure.

My brother-in-law, Amos Peterson was taking a family member to catch a train in Abilene to the West Coast. When the train pulled out there were two women standing there. It was late at night and no taxi, so he offered to take them to the hotel. Of course, they were very appreciative. He learned that one of them was Mamie Eisenhower. For weeks he wouldn't allow his car windows to be opened as he wanted to keep the fragrance of her perfume as long as he could.

If you are planning a wedding be sure to have someone guard the wedding gifts. A couple in California didn't and someone took all the wedding money, which amounted to $1,500. Wasn't that mean? I hope it wasn't one of the invited guests.

I haven't read any really good books lately. I am reading a book called "Spindletop." It's about a big oil gusher down in Texas. Turned out to be a huge well.
