Random Thoughts

All my life I have more or less ignored the Indian people. I thought they were long gone or not important. Excuse my ignorance! I just read a book recommended by a friend called, "Searching for Sacred Ground," by Raylene Hinz-Penner.

I found that the descendants of the old Indian tribes are very much alive and to be admired. She wrote about Lawrence Heart, a chief of a Cheyenne tribe and Mennonite minister. He is promoting peace and justice. Many Indians are highly educated and wise. They are trying to gather the bones of their ancestors and give them proper burial. The Cheyenne Cultural Center is located in Oklahoma. I personally don't think we treated the Indians fairly.

I saw an item in the paper telling that the famous Chicago hotel, The Palmer House, was offering couples who spent their honeymoon there 50 years ago could celebrate their anniversary there for the same price they paid back then. The cost then was $10. The room charge now is $1,600.

When we went on our honeymoon to Chicago we stayed in a brand new, fancy hotel, right on Lake Michigan, called The Stevens. It is long gone, but there stands The Palmer House, 136 years old. Still a luxury hotel and an historic place.

I'm glad our citizens are meeting and discussing our future. Working together, something good is bound to happen!
