Random Thoughts

I have been deep in religious beliefs this past week. First I read a book, "The Faces Beyond the Veil," by Donna Gehuke. It is about the Muslim women living in the United States. I was surprised to learn of the large number of women who have come to this country. There is a big settlement near Phoenix, Ariz. Many of them wear the dress of their former country, especially the Hijab (head covering). The writer tells the individual stories of various women. Most of them have several children who have left abusive husbands. They have been highly educated, with degrees in their hands. They manage to get jobs as teachers and as business workers.

Then there was "Abraham," by David Rosenberg. At first I wasn't sure I would continue through the book, but as I read I became more interested. The Muslims, the Jews, and Christians claim Abraham as the beginning of the history of their religion. Religion has really shaped the history of our world.

In passing I'll mention Sue. She is a life-size replica of the largest, most complex tyrannosaurus rex fossil ever discovered. If you want to see her, go to Exploration Place in Wichita. I remember visiting a display of the bones of dinosaurs. I think it was in Idaho. Very impressive. I think some bones have been found in Kansas. There is a museum near Liberal that has a display. I'm sort of glad they are in the past. I wouldn't want to meet up with one.
