Random Thoughts: Do judge a book by its paper

At Marion Pharmacy, there will be an empty chair at the coffee klatch. Bill Meyer will be missing. His challenging ways will be missed. He was our hometown "pusher" and the ultimate patriot and newspaper editor. I feel like we are afloat without a captain. It was eight years ago that I decided to jump into the writing business. I wrote a small piece and sent it to Bill and asked if he could use it in the Marion County Record. He took a chance on me and we have had a special relationship ever since. Bill, I'll miss you. I'll miss your support and friendship.

I just saw a TV program about Dukias, a very small country with big ideas. They have many skyscrapers and are building the tallest building in the world. They have built a ski area right in the desert, enclosed of course. They breed fine horses.

A few years ago the sheiks entered their beautiful Arabian horses in a contest held near Junction City. It was a big undertaking. Our Belinda Skiles was in charge of marketing.

I'm planning to attend the musical, "My Fair Lady" put on by the high school. I know it will be good. Janet Killough always produces great shows and wonderful music. There was a period of time when great musicals were very popular — "Sound of Music," "South Pacific," "Oklahoma!" and others. I hope they keep playing them.

Happy Thanksgiving!
