Random Thoughts: Heroes come in all forms

I sometimes watch the show "Millionaire" on TV. The other day there was a handsome young man in the chair. Sitting in the audience were three adorable little boys about five years old. They were so cute all dressed alike in bright red clothes. The man's wife and daughter were there too.

All were bright and happy, anticipating that Daddy would win a million dollars!

He did get to the $1,000 level and could keep that. Then the question came "Which of these four countries is not of Slavic people? Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden." Daddy quickly answered "Denmark!"

Oh dear, I felt so sorry for him and that precious family. I just can't forget those cute little boys and their disillusionment in their hero, Daddy.

Another show I watched was one in which they have chosen 100 of the greatest Americans, dead or alive. There were artists, musicians, actors, politicians, presidents, inventors, scientists, business leaders, etc.

They want their watchers to choose the one greatest American. Seems to me they should be in certain categories.

Anyway, I choose George Washington, our first president. If he hadn't held and led us then, what would have happened? He had dignity, perseverance, courage, and faith. It was the first time such a government had been tried. What a leader! Who would you choose?

I just read Bob Dole's book, "One Soldier's Story." Such a poignant story, full of courage, humility, perseverance, and faith. I hope you all read it.
