Random Thoughts: Martha is back

At last, Martha Stewart is back on TV. Friday she spent the whole hour celebrating her mother's 91st birthday. I admire her for doing such a program. It was well done. How many celebrities would honor their mothers in that way? Martha and one of her special chefs even baked the birthday cake. It was a carrot cake and looked so good I wanted to go right out to the kitchen and bake one. Martha has adopted Oprah's style of serving food to the audience, so everyone there received a piece of that wonderful cake.

For several weeks in the cartoon "Blondie," Blondie and Dagwood have been planning their 50th wedding anniversary. Finally in the Sunday paper a few weeks ago, they had the big day. Everyone in the cartoon world was there, even Dick Tracy, Dennis the Menace, Garfield, and many others. Now, Blondie and Dagwood are on their second honeymoon so I'm expecting Dagwood to get into a lot of trouble.

You can see I love the cartoons. I never miss some of the old ones like "Little Orphan Annie," "Popeye," and others.

I have just finished a book, "The Laments." It is a story of a family who migrated from Rhodesia to London and to America. Not a happy story. They did stick through it all together but sort of depressing.

Now I'm reading "His Excellency," the life of George Washington, my hero. I just hope the writer doesn't cook up anything detrimental on him. That would really disturb me.
