Random Thoughts: Wrong season for toasting (chest)nuts

Did you ever start smelling something strange and wonder what it was? This had a slight "burn" smell. I paid no attention because I knew I hadn't been cooking anything and the house was closed so I knew that whatever the neighbors were doing couldn't have crept into the house.

I had just had a short nap and had been reading. I felt a craving for something to eat, so I sauntered out to the kitchen. Well! The mystery was solved. I had put some mixed nuts in a shallow pan in the toaster oven and turned it on. It is a good thing the oven had turned itself off. I tasted the nuts — not bad, maybe slightly over-toasted. Elderly ladies need 24/7 guarding.

Here is my next book review, "Mr. President, Mr. President," by Sarah McClendon, published in 1996. She was an independent reporter in Washington, D.C. She first started with FDR as president and when she ended the book Bill Clinton was president. She was known for her sharp questions. She also worked hard for equal rights for women. She mentions other reporters famous in her time. Who could forget Sam Donaldson?

Such an interesting book as she describes her version of each president. Some she liked better than others. Anyway, the book gives you a view of the way politics works in our Capitol. She writes with a sense of humor and that adds to the interest.
