RECA works to restore power

Staff reporter

Some Marion County rural residents continue to suffer without electrical power.

Bill Wessel, member service manager of Flint Hills Rural Electric Cooperative Association, Inc., said there were 140 Marion and Chase county residents near Wonsevu without power. A few residents near Peabody also were without power but he anticipated those customers to have power by today (Wednesday).

Approximately 38 linemen from the local RECA, and cooperatives from Missouri and Solomon assisted in the major repair and restoration of power lines.

Wessel said the cooperative has suffered a $2 million loss for all of the Flint Hills RECA area.

At the peak time of the outage, there were 2,000 customers without service, Wessel said.

"We're hoping by Thursday night our three-phase lines will be repaired and power restored in those areas," Wessel said.

He said there were individual homes with broken poles, damaged transformers, and other damages that prevent electrical power.

The Council Grove-based business provides electrical service to most rural residents in Marion, Chase, and Morris counties.
