Record girls continue winning streak

Marion County Record 12-and-under girls' softball team swept Peabody/Burns Friday in their final league match-up for the regular season. A beautiful brisk summer evening brought a full stand to cheer the team on to a 16-4 victory.

Kristen Steinborn started the evening pitching with Emily Rogers behind the plate. Showing her versatility in the first inning, Steinborn struck out one player and caught an infield fly to deliver Peabody their first two outs. The third and final out came when a ball hit to shallow right field was delivered to first base to beat the runner to the bag, allowing the Peabody team just one run. The Record team batted through the line-up in the first inning to score four runs.

A long throw from home plate by Rogers to Jordan Harper on second picked the lead runner off to demonstrate the Record team's ability to play defense and leave the Peabody/Burns team scoreless again in the second inning.

A home run by Steinborn brought in two runs to start the second offensive strike for the team. The second inning ended with the Record team scoring five runs total.

Peabody/Burns remained scoreless in the third inning with the Record girls adding two to the board. An injury to Steinborn in the third inning brought Sarah Freeby to the mound in the fourth inning.

Peabody scored one run and S. Freeby struck out two to keep the momentum going for the Record team. Five additional runs for the Record team in the fourth inning brought them to 16 and left Peabody with an insurmountable task of scoring 12 runs to win the game.

Their first two batters scored two runs and then fate struck an unfriendly blow as Freeby struck out the third batter. The game ended on the fourth and fifth batter being thrown out at first base to keep the Record team undefeated.
