Record girls remain undefeated

Marion County Record 12-and-under girls' team remains undefeated after two solid wins this week against Carlsons' Grocery and Peabody-Burns.

In a June 8 match-up against Carlsons' Grocery, the wind played a major factor in what became a pitcher's game.

Both teams scored five runs in the first inning. Carlsons' held the Record team to one run each in the second and third innings while chalking up three runs in the second inning and two in the third. Both teams remained scoreless in the fourth.

Kristen Steinborn came to bat in the fifth inning, hitting a home run and bringing in two runs to lead the Record team's rally to add eight runs to the scoreboard.

Formidable pitching by Sarah Freeby in the fifth inning left the Carlsons' team scoreless and the Record team still undefeated with a final score of 15-10.

Record pitchers Freeby and Steinborn recorded 13 walks and five strike-outs.

Carlsons Grocery pitcher Alexis Cain had a solid performance with 10 walks and nine strike-outs.

The Record girls traveled to Peabody Thursday and added another win to their season.

Sarah Freeby struck out 11 players and led the team to a 16-6 victory.

At a diamond where home plate is a substantial distance from the back drop, Emily Rogers did a superb job of keeping the ball in front of her and limiting the number of Peabody players attempting steals at home.

Home runs by Kristen Steinborn in the first inning and Frankie Clark in the third inning demonstrated the Record team's ability to hit, driving in a total of six runs in three innings.

Tiffany Christensen had a solid hit in the fourth inning, bringing in two RBIs. Eight unanswered points left the Record with a strong start in league play with a 4-0 record and one win in pre-season play.

Marion County Record girls will travel Friday for a rematch against Hillsboro Ampride. Game time is 8 p.m.
