Reward offered for arrest of ATV thieves

Like modern-day horses, all-terrain vehicles are used by ranchers and farmers in their daily operations. When an ATV is stolen, it not only affects how the work is completed but it also impacts the working man's wallet.

Area residents are asked to contact Marion County Sheriff's Office regarding the theft of two, four-wheel ATVs that occurred during the past seven weeks.

The sheriff's office is offering a cash reward for information that will lead to the recovery of the ATVs and prosecution of suspect(s).

A 2002 Arctic Cat, model 500 ATV, red with black trim, was stolen May 2. The ATV has a broken left headlight and a cracked left fender. The vehicle ID number is 4US02ATV12T222872.

The second stolen ATV is a Kawasaki Prairie 360cc, green with black racks on the front and rear. It was taken sometime between June 9 and June 19. The vehicle ID number is JKBVFHB1X4B505701. Also taken at the same time were two Stihl chain saws, model numbers 310 and 360.

Both thefts occurred in the Lincolnville area.

Information is being sought on a small, rusted, bluish/silver pickup truck, possibly a Nissan.

If anyone sees a pickup that fits this description, please call the Marion County Sheriff's Office at (620) 382-2144.

Residents are urged to lock ATVs and tools in a secure building, copy down all serial numbers, take keys out of ATVs and other equipment, register ATVs with the sheriff's office, and mark vehicles and equipment for identification.
