Rhodes resigns

Staff reporter

After two months on the job, Marion County Public Works Director Martin Rhodes and Marion County Commission have decided to part ways.

At the Oct. 31 commission meeting, two 10-minute executive sessions were called by the commission with Rhodes. A 10-minute session between the commission, Rhodes, and county road foreman John Summerville, followed. When the meeting reconvened commission chairman Randy Dallke made the statement that Rhodes had resigned, effective Nov. 2.

Rhodes had been building inspector for the City of Hillsboro for five years before beginning his stint with the county.

Summerville began his tenure with the county Sept. 4.

At the end of the meeting, the commission had another 10-minute session to discuss personnel with Summerville. Following that session, no decisions were made but the commission said it would discuss the public works director position at Monday's meeting.

At Monday's commission meeting, Summerville requested and received a 10-minute executive session to discuss personnel.

When the meeting reconvened, commission vice chairman Bob Hein announced Summerville would receive a pay increase from $2,500 per month to $2,750 for the extra duties he will perform until the commission hires a public works director.
