Richmond receives Florence alumni scholarship

Misti Richmond, daughter of Tim and Robin (Wineinger) Richmond of Marion, received the Florence High School Alumni Association $1,000 scholarship May 27 during the 110th annual alumni banquet at Florence gymnasium.

More than 200 alumni, guests, and teachers attended the banquet. Years represented were from 1929 to 2006. Special recognition was given to classes of 1929, 1930, 1931 (75-year graduates), 1933, 1935, 1940, 1944, 1945, 1946 (60-year graduates), 1951, 1961, 1966, 1971, and 1976. Each class member received a yellow rose. The class of 1956 was honored at the head table.

Alumni traveled from Arkansas, California, Oregon, Iowa, Arizona, Texas, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, Washington, West Virginia, Louisiana, Wyoming, Colorado, and Kansas.

Mike Robinson, class of 1967, was master of ceremonies. Sue Klassen, mayor of Florence, gave the welcome. Ted Osgood, class of 1958, gave the invocation. Misti Richmond, class of 2006, gave the response.

Sarah Williams, 2005 scholarship recipient, spoke about her first year of college and plans for the future.

It was decided to give two $1,000 scholarships next year.

It also was decided to keep the same officers for next year: Mike Robinson, class of 1967, president; Dawna (Goodwin) Schmidt, class of 1971, vice president; Dian (Waner) Rusk, class of 1964, secretary; and Jerry Malmgren, class of 1963, treasurer.

Special entertainment was provided by Ray and Jeff Davidson.

The meal was provided by Arletta's Catering, Burns.
