Robert Shanklin

Robert L. "Bob" Shanklin, 67, died Aug. 4, 2005, at his home in Florence.

Born July 20, 1938, at Newton, he was the son of Claude and Zelda (Nicholson) Shanklin.

He attended school in the Wonsevu community and later went to high school at Cedar Point, where he graduated in 1956.

On Dec. 12, 1958, he married Janis Rosiere at Florence.

He was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad as a heavy equipment operator. Prior to that he worked at the rock quarry in Florence.

In the late 1970s he served as Florence fire chief.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Jean; and two brothers, Harold and Clifford.

Survivors include his wife, Janis of Florence; son, Craig of Newton; daughter, Jodi Rexroat of Newton; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at Zeiner Funeral Home, Florence, with the Rev. Steve Hysom officiating.

Music for the service was provided by Dollye Soyez and Jackie Creamer.

Casket bearers were Joe Heath, Jerry Siebert, Ed Robinson, Ron Kirkpatrick, Ronnie Moore, and Gene Schafer.

Honorary casket bearers were Del Leeds and Lawrence Foose.

Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Florence.

A memorial fund has been established with Marion County Home Care Services.
