Robert Waner

Robert Lloyd Waner, 85, died July 17, 2005, at Memorial Hospital, McPherson.

Born March 14, 1920, on a farm near Florence, he was the son of Andrew and Frances (Garrison) Waner.

He served in the U.S. Marines as a sergeant during World War II.

On Nov. 4, 1947, he married Ruth Marie Adler at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Florence.

He worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps, Mercer Brothers at Cedar Point, and as a carpenter in Junction City and Wichita.

For a time, he managed a cow/calf operation near Wilsey, then bought a farm north of Florence. He and Ruth began a custom hoof trimming business which took them throughout the Midwest and continues today into the third generation of Waners. In 1989, they moved to McPherson.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, McPherson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Paul Waner; and sister, Ruth Garland.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth of McPherson; daughter, Barbara Roe of Galva; son, Alan Waner of Ogallala, Neb.; sister, Dorothy Hoffman of Florence; three brothers, John Waner and Vernon Waner of Marion and George Waner of Junction City; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) at St. Joseph Catholic Church, McPherson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Florence, with Fr. Paul Oborny officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Calvery Cemetery, rural Florence, with full military honors.

Memorial funds have been established with St. Joseph Catholic Church or McPherson Public Library.
