Routine vehicle stop nets DUI arrest

A vehicle was stopped in rural Peabody at 2:01 a.m. Dec. 21 on suspicion of an equipment violation. During investigation, sheriff's deputies reported they discovered all all occupants of the vehicle had been drinking alcohol. All were under the age of 21. The driver was arrested, and the others were allowed to be taken home. The driver was charged with transporting an open container, consuming alcohol, and having no tag light. Passengers of the vehicle will be processed through district court as minors consuming alcohol, reports Deputy Aaron Waddel.

Between 8:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. Dec. 22, two blankets were taken from the residence of Cindy Jo Flanagan-Nuss, 625 Abilene, Durham. The blankets are valued at $40, Deputy Larry Starkey reports.

Between 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Dec. 11, five round bales of milo stubble suspiciously caught fire. The bales were on property owned by Floyd Nickel of Newton. Deputy Rollin Schmidt reports the bales were valued at $125.

A driver was stopped at 2:26 p.m. Dec. 20 at 150th and Indigo Rd. for driving 70 mph in a 55 mph zone. A check of the driver's license showed it was suspended, Deputy Mike Vineski reports.

A person riding in a car during a traffic stop at Roosevelt and Welch streets in Marion was found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, Undersheriff Jeff Soyez reports.

During a stop at 8:12 p.m. Dec. 27 to serve civil papers at a residence at 206 S. Ash, Hillsboro, Deputy Waddel detected an odor thought to be marijuana. He stepped inside, found marijuana and arrested both residents of the home. The marijuana and drug paraphernalia were valued at $55.
