Ruth Goentzel

Ruth H. Goentzel, 88, died April 20, 2007, at Golden Living Center, Marion.

Born Feb. 25, 1919, at Weir City, Mo., she was the daughter of Thomas and Ada (Herndon) Macon.

She was a licensed practical nurse and cook and a member of Marion Christian Church.

On Nov. 20, 1943, she married Edward Goentzel at Newton. He died in 1989.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Peter Goentzel.

Survivors include three sons, Bill Goentzel of Marion, Jack Goentzel of Englewood, Colo., and Thomas Goentzel of Monmouth, Maine; two daughters, Virginia Jost of Valley Center and Linda Higley of Morrison, Colo.; brother, Donald Hill of Senora, Calif.; four sisters, May Corey of Lodi, Calif., LaVonne Brittian of Orlando, Fla., Orpha Newman of Stockton, Calif., and Ozie Dixon of Wichita; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, Marion, with the Rev. Carl Helm officiating.

Burial was in Marion Cemetery.

Memorial funds have been established with Marion Christian Church, Eastmoor United Methodist Church, or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
