Salaries for some elected officials will be bumped up

Salary increases for some elected officials will be included in the 2008 county budget.

Marion County Commission reviewed information Monday that indicated that some officials are well above the goal of 88 percent of the average salary of those in the same positions in other counties; with some county officials near 100 percent or more.

The officials who apparently are paid less than their peers in other counties are the sheriff, clerk, and treasurer.

In other business:

— The commission approved a bid of $26,923 for a 2008 Dodge Durango from Wright's Chrysler of Hillsboro. The Durango will replace a Ford Expedition that currently is being used as the K-9 unit.

The bid requirements included a remote starter, four-wheel drive, and rear air conditioning and heating for transporting the drug dog.

The Durango also has the fuel management feature where it can switch from eight cylinders to four when idling or for town driving.

Other bids were $27,285 for a 2008 Ford Expedition from Hillsboro Ford-Mercury and $33,720 for a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe from Irv Schroeder Country Motors.

It was determined after opening the first bid that a minimum of $180 was needed to cover expenses.

The Webers were successful bidders for another Florence parcel when they offered $325 for the lots. Bryan Harper of Florence also presented a bid of $225 for the same lots.

A fourth tract in Marion did not have any bidders. The City of Marion will be contacted to determine if the city wants the property.
