Sassy Senior Moments

By JANET BRYANT

Senior center reporter

Christmas is over and we all had been so good all year that we received an abundance of gifts, each one of us!

We had several versions of the 'night before Christmas' poems read, including the Swedish one and one entitled, "The Cows Don't Know It's Christmas." Dairy farmers could agree with that.

The newsletter crew worked diligently, folding, labeling, and sorting. This crew consisted of Ivanlee and Mary Ann Timm, Harvey Wells, Beulah Weigart, Evelyn Jewett, Elsie Reiswig, Norma Woerz, June and Lois Jost, Sue Clough, Virginia Downing, and Lanell Hett.

Virginia Bowers displayed some Christmas gifts she had made, personalized with her great-grandchildren's names.

Keith and Norine Holtsclaw, who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary here Dec. 15, shared the official greetings received from George W. Bush and Laura Bush and Don Dahl, Kansas House of Representatives.

Our Meals on Wheels drivers have delivered emergency meals to those who wanted them so if we are closed there will be a back-up meal.

On Senior Center Day, Dec. 19, we had a wonderful talent show. Virginia Downing was in charge and emceed the program. Those performing were Sue Clough, June Jost, Leonard Klassen, Vivian Conyers, Marilyn Geis, and Shirley Bowers. We all took part in "The Twelve Days of Christmas."

Shirley Moore brought us all "The Bee" movie honey containers.

Albert Steele shared his art work before it was wrapped up for Christmas gifts.

Evelyn Jewett reported the Craft Corner ladies had completed 10 quilts for 2007.

Christmas bingo was played after lunch Dec. 21, with Shirley Bowers in charge.

Norine Holtsclaw made a presentation that day, surprising husband Keith with a proposal of marriage and a birthday gift. There were treats for us, also.

We had a Christmas Eve door prize presented by Shirley Bowers. The winner was Dorothy Conyers.
