Sassy Senior Moments

By JANET BRYANT

Senior center reporter

We are becoming the destination place for various groups and we enjoy every minute.

We welcomed the Harvest House, an over-65 group from Holy Family Parish March 9. I gave them a program on friendship before lunch.

St. Luke Hospital retired personnel ate lunch with us March 14. We have two other groups coming in March. Bring your group down.

Madonna Schafers brought birthday treats March 8. We had art on display by Albert Steele and Shirley Moore.

We learned that Barbie debuted on March 9, 1959. I wish I had asked for Barbie dolls from our daughters or granddaughters to be displayed.

Shirley Bowers has brought in vases of daffodils to share.

Marion County Senior Center managers met March 13 in Peabody. The program was field representative, Tracy Splitter and food service operations manager, Greg Stephens from Manhattan. They were full of information for us.

Five women attended a dance at the Moose lodge March 14 in Salina. They had a blast. Those going were Shirley Moore, Evelyn Jewett, Marie Hoffner, Elsie Reiswig, and Ruth Cotham. Watch for information about the next dance.

Come join us for lunch March 28. Rose Vinduska of Prairie View will give a presentation.

Card bingo will be played March 29.

Last Week's News

We've had our first sign of spring! Beulah Weigart brought in one brave little daffodil to share with us.

Albert Steele brought in the bunnies he first introduced when they were six days old. They had grown amazingly bigger, and will return to visit before Easter.

We are planning a van trip Tuesday to the Titanic exhibit at Exploration Place in Wichita. We'll eat early, at 11 a.m., then leave. Call if you'd like to go.

Our art classes continue at 12:30 p.m. Fridays. They now meet in a little area behind partitions so initial intimidation for brand new artists is out of sight.

Thelma Blosser brought some lacy handwork done by a friend of hers in the Philippines.

Eleven people took the AARP driving course March 5-6. Jona Baltzer from Hillsboro was the teacher. We discovered how very noisy we ordinarily are when we tried to tone down for these sessions.

Janet Ingram, Avon Cancer Outreach nurse, Salina Regional Health Center, updated us March 7 on research and new treatments.
