Sassy Senior Moments

By JANET BRYANT

Senior center reporter

We're in the midst of National Volunteer Week. We simply could not function without the many people who help every day. The Department for Elderly honored their volunteers April 28. There are people who assemble the newsletter or provide transportation out of town.

On April 30, Virginia Downing recognized the FISH (Friends I Should Help) drivers: Shirley Moore, Prudy Hanson, and Fred Puttroff. They provide rides within Marion city.

We celebrated Herb Jackson's birthday April 25 and Jerry Harp's birthday on two days. We had ice cream cups April 29 and cupcakes April 30. If any of you are facing a birthday alone, come on down and we'll at least sing to you.

Gayla Ratzlaff would like to take a van to the May 15 Life After 55 Expo at Newton. Call her at the department for elderly if interested.

Dr. Dennis Scharenberg spoke after lunch April 30. He demonstrated acupuncture on Fred Puttroff and Rowena Olsen.

Come join us for lunch May 14 when Amanda Steiner will present information about disability issues.

We now have a veterans administration representative coming twice a month to the center, on the first and third Tuesdays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
