Sassy Senior Moments

By JANET BRYANT

Remember that episode of "I Love Lucy" when Lucy ends up stomping grapes? That's the jigsaw puzzle we've just started at the senior center. Come in and add a piece or two to the puzzle.

We finished honoring volunteers this past week; the nutrition helpers were recognized May 1. There are 25 people who deliver meals or help in the dining room. Wilma Gilmer puts decorations on the tables each month. Also honored were the reservation ladies, Marilyn Geis, Norma Woerz, Joyce Jackson, and Virginia Bowers.

On Friday, Marilyn Geis honored the senior center volunteers, quilters, Ivanlee Timm, who does many jobs, and Wilma Gilmer.

Darrell and Beulah Weigart left May 1 for Arizona. Beulah had left candy for her birthday May 6 so we ate it May 1. Then she called on her actual birthday and we scrounged up more candy to celebrate again.

We had a card from Noreen Weems wishing us a "Happy May Day" and thanking us for all we do to help senior citizens.

Shirley Bowers led a sing-along after lunch May 7. Ellen Darrow was her piano accompanist. It had been quite awhile since we had enjoyed singing together like this.

Remember the center is closed May 21. Senior Center Day will be May 22. Sheriff Lee Becker will speak after lunch. His topic is meth labs.
