Sassy Senior Moments

Another quilt is just now being set up as I write! The dedicated quilters not only create something of beauty and value for those who bring quilts in, but also use the funds for special projects. Evelyn Jewett is head quilter. Sue Clough, Beulah Weigart, and Shirley Bowers are here loyal crew.

We welcomed the Marion County Retired School Personnel June 7. They had asked Estelle McCarty to sing for us. She does a great Patsy Cline.

Darrell Weigart brought treats for his birthday, which was June 13. Lois Jost also has provided birthday treats this week.

We welcomed members of the fellowship class at Aulne United Methodist Church June 13.

Roger Megli provided accordion music following lunch. Interestingly, I had discovered that June is accordion month.

Plan ahead for June 21, Senior Center Day. Herb Jackson will have the program. It also is the first day of summer. We will celebrate. Wear your shorts, flip-flops, swimsuit (if you dare), beach hat, etc. We'll play Beach Boys music.

Come join us June 27 for Apron Day. Thelma Blosser will talk about her aprons. Bring your apron for a parade and sharing of stories. There are guy aprons too — barbecue, carpenter, etc.

There will be a group going to El Dorado June 28 for a cookout and dance, leaving Marion at 5 p.m.

Last week's news

After seeing all the excitement at the Chingawassa Days Elvis tribute contest we invite all Elvis fans to the senior center on the King's birthday, Jan. 8. The Elvis impersonator booked for that evening is Marc Jacobs. He has a style much like the winner of the Chingawassa contest.

We are planning a trip to the Kansas Cosmosphere for the show, "Hurricane on the Bayou." Call for the date and to reserve a place in the van.

Iva Unruh celebrated her 95th birthday June 1. There were many family members joining her for lunch. Jim Hett recited a poem especially for her.

I suggested to the group that we could have a team in the Chingawassa bed race next year. People could start training now. One person asked where to sign up.

A representative from Junction City spoke to us about CASA (court-appointed special advocate). There were several people interested in volunteering for this program.

Leonard Klassen went to Council Grove June 6 to get commodities. The crew of sackers were so efficient the job was done by 11 a.m. That crew was Ivanlee Timm, Larry Blosser, Leonard Klassen, Evelyn Jewett, and Val Morgan.

Come join us for lunch Thursday on Senior Center Day. Herb Jackson will present a vocal music program.
