Sassy Senior Moments

Did you observe Spam Day on Aug. 25? We did. Spam as a brand name was a contest winner and stands for spiced ham. We had a can of hickory smoked Spam and cubed it. Having some toothpicks with paper parasols on the end, we stuck them in the cubes so everyone could have a bite. The little parasols ended up stuck in the salt and pepper shaker openings for a festive touch.

Twenty-four people played card bingo Friday. Everyone wins at some point and paying attention is the only skill required.

We invite people to sign up for the Senior Fair at Salina on Sept. 19. There will be a van leaving at 7 a.m. that morning. Virginia Bowers will be representing Marion County in the spelling bee that day.

We had an interesting request from the art instructor at Butler Community College. She needs someone to model for her drawing class.

Marie Navrat brought treats to celebrate her birthday during August.

Did you read the article about Val Morgan and her Kansas State Fair job helping feed the guest performers? Val is a volunteer in our dining room.

Gene Vinduska brought his accordion music for us Aug. 30. As sometimes happens, we had impromptu entertainment. Marie Hoffner did the polka and Madonna Schafers sang along with the "Oklahoma Waltz," which had been played at her wedding dance.

Come join us on Sept. 13 for more fun. Mike Hadley will be bringing his karaoke equipment. It is quite versatile and anyone will sound good singing with it.
