Sassy senior moments: Center needs volunteers to embroidery

Sassy senior moments

By JANET BRYANT

Senior center reporter

It's possible that if you heard giggles and loud laughter from South Third Street this week it came from the senior center. We have more people coming to eat and this creates a really fun atmosphere.

We started another guess-the-coins-in-the-jar game. Some people are very good at this. Next week we should know the winner.

Mary Hett ironed designs on nine sets of tea towels, so they are ready to be embroidered. Come get a set to take home and embroider. Some people use them as decorative accents. One woman bought a set as a wedding gift for a young relative. The girl opened the package, held a tea towel up, remarked "how pretty" and then said, "What are they for?"

Leslie Sweazy and Sara Hiebert gave a presentation Wednesday on Hospice Care of Kansas.

Ivanlee Timm brought in a framed lighthouse picture created with wooden shapes.

Mary Hett brought in an afghan she made from scraps of yarn left from other projects.

We received a postcard Friday from Noreen Weems, director of Marion County Department for Elderly. She has been vacationing in Colorado.

Albert Steele set up easels for three of his paintings and invited us to vote on which one to enter in the state fair.

Once we're inside, out of the heat, our sassy senior moments are quite creative.

Join us Aug. 17 for lunch on Senior Center Day. A good program, featuring Alex Stuchlik playing his accordion, will follow.
