Sassy Senior Moments: Mystery woman wins penny contest

By JANET BRYANT

Feb. 24-March 2

We finished one project and started another this week — and also celebrated birthdays.

Our penny jar was full to the brim so for a few days people wrote down their estimate of the total amount in the jar. There were some very close guesses, people raising each other by pennies. Total in the jar was $15.47. Our winner was Marilyn Stegall. She is a mystery woman! Marilyn, please come by or call for your prize. Second place went to Shirley Bowers and third to Albert Steele.

Our new project is the sharing of high school graduation photographs. It began with Thelma Blosser who showed her photo that had been hand-colored by a Japanese student. We then asked for more. Virginia Downing brought her photo as basketball queen, Shirley Bowers brought a photo, and Iva Unruh had a framed photo of all nine of her brothers and sister, Ellen Darrow.

Harold Bowers treated us to ice cream cups for his 93rd birthday. Sue Clough also brought treats for her birthday.

We have two vans going March 14 and 16 to Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center. Both are filled, but call if you want on the stand-by list.

Charles Montgomery had a copy of his newly published book "Seductions and Betrayal." We hope to have copies available for purchase.

Janet Ingram, Avon Outreach nurse at Salina Regional Health Center spoke Wednesday about the latest techniques in cancer prevention, detection, and treatment.

Join us March 15 for Senior Center Day with Bennie Holtsclaw providing the musical program.
