Sassy senior moments: Seniors celebrate

By JANET BRYANT

Senior center reporter

We have had more than our share of treats this week, including candy bars and ice cream. Birthdays were celebrated by Lois Jost, Darrell Weigart, Jane Makovec, and Lois Johnson. Lydia Batt brought treats to acknowledge the one-year anniversary of falling and injuring her wrist. She's now back to quilting.

We had a mini program on Flag Day. We had a quiz about the American flag, read Red Skelton's remarks about the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, followed by our own pledge. We closed with the original national anthem, "Hail, Columbia." It was sung by Virginia Bowers and Mary Hett, accompanied by Shirley Bowers. "The Star-Spangled Banner" became the national anthem in 1931.

Senior Center Day was Wednesday. The program was given by Michael Leonard. He recited his own cowboy poetry to a very appreciative audience.

We used Father's Day placemats Friday created by Elsie Reiswig. We also had a reading written by Erma Bombeck, "When God Created Fathers."

Come join us for lunch June 29 when Rowena Olsen will talk about genealogy for beginners.
