Sassy senior moments: Seniors celebrate the 4th a little early

By JANET BRYANT

What a week this has been. It started calmly and each day the excitement grew. By Friday we were bursting with silliness and looking forward to the July 4 holiday.

Lydia Batt brought her style of artwork, a small framed scene done in embroidery stitches. Almeda Kahns brought in her just-completed red, white, and blue afghan.

Our program Wednesday was given by Rowena Olsen on genealogy. She encouraged us to write our own life story for our children and grandchildren. She suggested taking photographs not identified to family reunions, as others may know the people pictured.

We wore red, white, and blue on Friday. We celebrated Virginia Bowers' July 3 birthday.

New front doors were installed amid all the merriment. They will help keep our carpeting dry when it rains.

We also were given new ceramic coffee cups by Larry and Thelma Blosser.

Our first produce give-away was Friday. Shirley Bowers brought in turnips and beets. She also had some tomato plants to give away.

After lunch we had a sing-along led by Virginia Downing, accompanied by Shirley Bowers on the piano. Mary Ann Timm had brought her Americana doll which plays a patriotic song.

Come join us for lunch July 13. The retired hospital personnel will eat with us that day. There will be a presentation on osteoporosis and an opportunity to get a bone density test at reduced cost.
