Sassy senior moments: Seniors do more than eat with forks

Oct. 27-Nov. 2

We celebrated National Fork Day Thursday. We had baby forks, pickle forks, hay forks, and pitch forks. The big utility forks were brought by Roger Giesbrecht, Ralph Popp, and Harold Bowers. Eula Colle brought a tiny fork from Bolivia. Keith Holtsclaw had found a fork at a thrift shop that had "Fred Harvey" engraved on it. Lanell Hett attached a photo of her children to her small fork. We also read about the woman who asked to be buried with her fork. We sang a specially composed fork song.

Estelle McCarty brought Halloween placemats and napkins Monday for the tables. We celebrated with table decorations and favors. Two of us dressed up in nearly identical black and orange wigs. Mary Ann Timm also had a witch's hat. My costume included a cape and green and black striped pantyhose. After work I went several places in town in costume. No one offered me candy.

We celebrated June and Lois Jost's 67th wedding anniversary Friday. Lois brought a rose she had received from June that day.

Herman Unruh retired from his many years delivering meals on wheels and taking the flag down each day. He informed me that he was 92 years old, not 91 as I had reported.

Iva Unruh also retired after many years as a dining room volunteer. Her retirement didn't last one week as she was called in to substitute for someone else.

We celebrated Mary Ann Timm's 80th birthday Tuesday. She baked two cakes to share with us. It also was Ivanlee and Mary Ann's 15th wedding anniversary.

Jerry Smith brought in some plants he had outside. They needed new homes and we were glad to give them away.

Thanksgiving cards and napkins now are for sale at the center.

Join us Nov. 16 for Senior Center Day.
