Sassy senior moments: Teddy Bears invade senior center on bring your bear to work day

By JANET BRYANT

Senior center reporter

We've been as busy as the proverbial bee at the senior center, keeping our minds exercised as well as our bodies.

Bring your teddy bear to work day was Wednesday. We had 19 bears and one gorilla visiting us. Lanell Hett brought a white angel bear given to her when her mom died. Most of the bears had a story behind them. It also was our monthly sing-along, led by Shirley Bowers. We sang "The Teddy Bear's Picnic" and another teddy bear song. Some of these bears spent the night at the senior center.

Michelle Abbott-Becker, Marion County emergency preparedness director, spoke Oct. 7 to us. She also brought good basic information to help us be safe and secure in an emergency situation.

Herman and Iva Unruh brought treats Oct. 10. They had celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary Oct. 9.

We have discovered a new holiday to celebrate. October is national fork month. We have chosen Oct. 27 to be our day to focus on forks. One individual has offered a fork poem and an inspirational story. A song also has been written. Plan to attend this unique event.

Nancy Pihl will give the program Oct. 26 entitled "Who Gets Grandma's Yellow Pie Plate?" Join us for lunch that day.
