Sassy Seniors

By JANET BRYANT

We've welcomed two groups this week who periodically meet and eat lunch at the senior center. The Marion County Retired School Personnel came Nov. 2 to eat. They had requested a sing-along, so Shirley Bowers as pianist and Sue Clough as song leader provided fun singing.

The St. Luke Hospital Retired Personnel met Nov. 8 with us. Marion County Democratic Women meet here and eat, regularly, on the first Friday of each month.

Sue Clough brought a couple of paintings she had done previously to put on our easels.

We had "cliché day" on Nov. 3 and Mary Ann Timm piped up to say she know how to crochet! You had to be here.

We've been doing trivia. One true or false statement was, "the skin of my teeth" is a phrase first used in the Bible. The answer was true. Iva Unruh came the next day with the source, Job 19:20.

Henrietta Waner brought treats for her birthday which was Nov. 7.

We have two sets of keys found in front of the east door or in the parking lot.

We've been invited to a 1940s dance in Lyons the evening of Nov. 21. There will be live music, "By Request." Call if interested 382-2942.

Prairie View provided the program Nov. 8. Garland Shuff of the Newton office introduced Seth Bremyer who works in the Marion office. Bremyer explained his areas of expertise. They also provided Krispy Kreme doughnuts which may have accounted for our big crowd.

Commodities were sacked up by Ivanlee Timm, Roger and LaDonna Giesbrecht, Bob Richmond, Leonard Klassen, and Virginia Downing.

Come join us Tuesday for a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Call for a reservation. We will have a short Thanksgiving program after lunch Nov. 22.

We have been busy and have had nice crowds this week. Another group went Oct. 27 to the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson. Leonard Klassen drove the van. Those going along were Dalene Tharp, Jackie Hett, Virginia Bowers, Gerri Williams, Rosie Plenert, Ivanlee Timm, Mary Ann Wiens, Helen Jantz, Marquetta Eilerts, Lou Schroeder, Margaret Wilson, and Frankie Turner.

Some people stayed at the center and played Hand and Foot, which seems to be a hilarious card game.

Keith and Norine Holtsclaw brought artwork for our easels.

June and Lois Jost celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary with treats for us.

Keith Holtsclaw was the caller for the popular card bingo played the last Friday of each month.

We had a "spooktacular" Halloween with lot of costumed people. Thelma Blosser brought orange bead necklaces for everyone. We took a group photo of four witches, Mary Ann Timm, Thelma Blosser, Janet Bryant, Shirley Bowers; Walter Norman as a warlock; Betty Norman as a monk; and Marilyn Geis as a spider woman. Iva Unruh fooled some of us at first in her original costume. The next day we celebrated Mary Ann Timm's birthday and Ivanlee and Mary Ann's wedding anniversary.

Come join us Nov. 15 for Senior Center Day and the program to follow. Shirley Moore and Marilyn Geis will talk about their trip to Smoky Mountains.

Flu shots will be given here from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday.
