Save receipts for free school equipment

Carlsons' Grocery customers can help Marion schools get free equipment.

The store is participating in a Register Tapes for Education program now through March 30, 2005.

For every dollar amount collected on the store's register receipts, Carlsons' Grocery will donate one percent toward items for Marion Elementary School, Marion Middle School, and Marion High School.

The donation will be doubled by the store from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 13 and Nov. 5, when two percent will be donated based on register receipts.

Stan Ploutz, MES principal, and Roger Schwab, MHS industrial arts teacher and MHS Key Club sponsor, are in charge of the program.

"The register receipts will be collected and submitted to a clearing house for tabulation," said Greg Carlson, an owner of Carlsons' Grocery.

The total tabulation will then be split between the schools with Carlsons' Grocery supplying the matching funds for educational equipment.

The equipment will benefit all students within the school district, Ploutz and Schwab said.

Schwab said MHS Key Club will bundle together the receipts and send them to the clearing house.

Drop boxes will be located in Carlsons' Grocery, MES, MMS, and MHS. The program also is sponsored by Affiliated Foods Midwest, the store's warehouse.
