Scam alert: Beware of bogus jury duty

Marion County residents are warned of another identity theft scam that has occurred in other states.

Thieves call individuals and identify themselves as employees of the local court. Victims are informed they have failed to report for jury duty and arrest warrants have been issued.

Victims then inform the scammers they did not receive a notice, so the scammers ask victims for vital information such as addresses, birth dates, and social security numbers to update "their records." Not wanting to be arrested, victims willingly provide whatever information that is requested.

Individuals who receive these calls should contact the local court system to determine if they have in fact missed a notice to report for jury duty.
