School district prepares for coming year

In preparation of the coming 2005-06 school year, Centre USD 397 board of directors made the following decisions Monday evening:

— Clark Davis was elected president of the board, and Jesse Brunner was elected vice president.

— Annual appointments were made which included Peggy Falen as clerk of the board, insurance and retirement compensation representative, point of contact for criminal background checks, and custodian of records.

Dawn Luna was appointed deputy clerk of the board; Francie Mueller, district treasurer and purchasing agent; Sheri Stahlecker, deputy district treasurer; Nancy Brockmeyer, homeless coordinator; and Robert Kiblinger, treasurer of activity and petty cash funds, officer of truancy, criminal reporting, information, and civil rights compliance.

— Board meetings for the coming year were set for 7:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month and will be held in the Centre High School Library, 2374 310th Road, Lost Springs.

Two meetings will not be in the library. The meeting of Oct. 10 will be at the Ramona parish hall, and March 13 at the Lincolnville Community Building.

— The Herington Time was designated as the official newspaper, Pilsen State Bank and Tampa State Bank as official banks, and John Klenda as school attorney.

— The school year will be based on 1,116 hours instead of 186 days of attendance.

Kindergarten is required to be a minimum of 465 hours, grades one through 11, a minimum of 1,116 hours, and grade 12, a minimum of 1,086 hours.

— Substitute teachers will earn $75 per each full day of teaching, and $40 for each half day.

After five days of continuous service in the same classroom, the daily rate will increase to $80 and after 20 days payment will be 1/188 of the base salary, retroactive to the first day of that service.

— Mileage reimbursement was increased from 37 cents per mile to 40 cents, per the state-approved rate.

— Leona Hajek was appointed as the TEEN representative, board member Jennifer Kassebaum, governmental relations representative, and Julie Klenda, summer ball representative.

— Hiland Dairy was awarded the milk bid for the coming school year at $0.2189 for one-half pint of two percent white milk, $0.2188 for one percent white milk, and $0.2145 for low fat chocolate milk.
