SE Saline trounces Centre Cougars

Centre High School Cougars faced a stiff challenge Friday as they battled 3A Southeast of Saline on the road.

Under first-year coach Cody Schafer, they were defeated by a tall, aggressive opponent, 66-30.

The Cougars had a difficult time finding the net, and were outscored right from the start. Except for a 12-point third quarter, they weren't able to put more than six points a period on the board.

They trailed 12-25 at halftime, when Southeast of Saline went on a 29-12 scoring spree which left the Cougars far behind in the dust. They ended up losing by 36 points.

One SES player, Bryson Flax, scored 28 points, and SES had 21 two-point goals and seven three-pointers. They were 3-of-9 from the free-throw line compared to 3-of-8 by Centre.

Centre's leading scorer was Alfonse Klenda with nine. Thieen Antoszyk scored eight points including two three-point shots in the third quarter. Kevin Mueller added seven, Zach Slayden five, and James Weber one.

The junior varsity fell to SES, 69-18. They bombed 0-21 in the first quarter and it was all downhill from there.

Josh Leach and Konley Harding scored four points each, and Heath Hill and Kacey Hanschu scored three points each.

The Cougars play in a pre-season tournament this week in Herington.
