Seasoned fisherman makes record catch

Jerry Foth has long had a reputation around Peabody as an expert fisherman. But on June 19, Foth entered the record books with the largest catch on record at Peabody Country Club. He hauled in a monster flathead that weighed 56.5 pounds.

Foth has fished the country club lake (a private lake available to members only) for years. On the evening of the 19th, just before dark, he was fishing from the bank using a rod and reel and a 17 1/2-pound test line.

After he realized he a had hooked a good-sized fish, it took him about 30 minutes to wrestle it to shore and then into his truck.

At home the fish was weighed and pictures were taken with son, Cory and granddaughters, Cierra and Madyson.

Later quick work with a filet knife reduced the record catch to morsels suitable for a record attendance fish fry.
