Second Kapaun military piilgrimage set for Veterans Day

The second annual military pilgrimage to Pilsen, home of Korean War hero Chaplain Father Emil Kapaun, will take place Nov. 11, Veterans Day.

At 11 a.m., a solemn Pontifical Mass will be celebrated at St. John Nepomucene Church by Most Rev. Edwin O'Brien, archbishop for military services.

Prayers for Father Kapaun's beatification, military honors, and a wreath-laying ceremony will follow at the memorial on the church grounds.

Serving as a military chaplain during both World War II and the Korean War, Father Kapaun died a heroic death as a prisoner-of-war in North Korea, and his cause for canonization has been opened in Rome.

The event is open to all, with a special invitation to military members, reservists, and veterans.

Lunch will be available with proceeds going to the Father Kapaun Committee and Guild. For more information, contact Rose Mary Neuwirth at 620-924-5282, or the chaplain's office at any Kansas military base.
