Senior Center: Melodrama, luau among many events

By JANET BRYANT

This has been a memorable week due to our melodrama July 11. It was called "Dark Day at the Lucky Strike." It was hilarious. It was perfect casting with Woody Crawshaw playing Dick Dastardly, Herb Jackson as Sneaky Sam, Larry Blosser in wig and dress as Lucinda Lou, Keith Holtsclaw in wig, shawl, and skimpy skirt playing Mother Keely.

Our hero, Harry Handsome, was Leonard Klassen.

Adding to the fun was Marilyn Geis holding up signs for the audience to boo and hiss and hooray. We wish we had videotaped it.

We also celebrated Woody Crawshaw's birthday June 30 when he was on vacation. He faithfully brought treats July 6.

Harold and Virginia Bowers celebrated their anniversary July 7 and brought treats to celebrate.

We had a good crowd July 12 with the St. Luke Hospital retired personnel present.

That day we also had an inspector from the area agency board. I think he discovered we are a well-run senior center with good food and great fun.

Before lunch we had a telephone call from Lanell Hett, who was in Times Square in New York City on a family vacation.

The second annual National Day of the American Cowboy is Saturday. Organizers are working on national legislation to create this day. We will get in on the ground floor on Friday with western attire encouraged, some cowboy poetry read, and songs sung.

Come join us July 26 for our Hawaiian luau. Bright print shirts, muumuus, and grass skirts are expected. Everyone will receive a lei and the women will get a silk flower for their hair. Gloria Ash, a native of the Philippines, will teach us to hula!
