Seven cities, rural areas are in hospital district
Marion County Hospital District #1 encompasses a large portion of eastern Marion County.
The towns of Marion, Florence, Burns, Lincolnville, Lost Springs, Ramona, and Tampa, and areas of Eastshore Development at Marion Reservoir and Marion County Park & Lake are included in the district.
Residents within the district are eligible to be candidates for the board of directors of the district. They also are eligible to vote for the board of directors at an annual meeting in May.
In November, voters approved the expansion of the board from five to seven members. In addition to two new positions, an existing board position also is up for election, making a total of three positions available for election.
The purpose of the board expansion was because of the change in management for St. Luke Hospital & Living Center from corporate to independent.
Since Oct. 1, the district board members have been serving in a management capacity for the hospital and living center, directing the chief executive and financial officers of the facilities.
A consulting company was hired, Quorum Health Resources, to assist with the transition from corporate to independent management, and will continue to provide management assistance.
